Dr Ayse Basak Cinar(DDS, MBA, PhD, DSci, Research Fellow and certified Health Coach, University of Dundee and NHS Tayside) is pioneering in the field of coaching for better management for oral health and diabetes type 2 (since 2009). She has implemented an international patient-centred coaching intervention to improve the patients’ well-being. She has served as an assistant professor at the Copenhagen University and was the course director for ‘Patient Focused Coaching’, in co-operation with the certified coach trainer, Christian Dinesen (2011-2014). She currently works on a project on health coaching-focused training for prisoners in cooperation with NHS Scotland, and for administrators and health-care providers, in cooperation with NES (National Education Services) Scotland. She has published 22 peer-reviewed articles, 34 presentations, and presented at international congresses and journals, two book chapters and 6 proceedings.


The session is designed for coaching practioners to understand and explore a new area of coaching, namely Health Coaching, from research to practice in daily life. The session will present new translational research, where coaching is implemented as a new holistic patient-centred approach to elicit, motivate, and support the adoption of healthy behaviours for better chronic disease management. Participants will assess and explore how health coaching is used by patients as a translational approach for positive lifestyle transformations from clinics to their personal lives.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to explore, examine and discuss:
